ahhh okay, so i think the girl's feelings for that guy might have something to do with the magic that allows the umbrella to transform. based off 1.) how the girl knew the umbrella would come back, 2.) her expression once she gave the umbrella to him again, and 3.) her face/hair matching the umbrella spirit's.

Rin from Shelter originally had brown hair but within her virtual reality it was pink. I'm guessing it's something like that?

Isn't it technically a confession?! Between her worry for his dislike of rain, and that gesture at the end of pushing away his standard black umbrella, not opening her own(which seems to have a design closely matching the gift's), and placing the gift above both of them(and you probably know of the romantic symbolism of "sharing an umbrella" in Japan), before telling him "Happy Birthday", all of these seem to imply she likes him and would like for them to either share an umbrella on rainy days, or have matching ones(couples usually do have matching items)...also, from my scanty understanding of spoken/romaji Japanese, doesn't the title mean "By your side"?

I was generally being facetious - I'm aware there's a lot of symbolism as well as the whole love idea with 'ai-ai-kasa' but it just struck me as an odd choice of gift is all.
